About the THORNS
|
The York & Lancaster Thorns RFC, established on July 17, 2005, is a Division II club, a member of the Eastern Pennsylvania Rugby Union and USA Rugby. We provide an exhilarating rugby and social experience for both seasoned players and newcomers to the sport. There has never been a York or Lancaster women's team. The founders of this organization were fortunate enough to be able to benefit from the rich and wonderful rugby culture in Pennsylvania. It was their vision and desire to give back to their communities and try to promote and advance a sport that had given them so much (i.e. seven rugby-starved post-grads had way too much free time and really missed tackling people). Rugby enjoys three seasons: a Fall season (August-November) which determines participation in post-season activity, a Spring season (February-June), and a Summer season (June-August) characterized by various tournaments. As a fully functional organization, the Thorns can offer women the opportunity to participate in any one, a combination or all three of the aforementioned seasons and related events.
New players and social members of all ages and skill levels welcomed! |

Our Mission
York & Lancaster Thorns RFC recognizes that not all players have the same goals and aspirations related to the sport of Rugby. We will provide opportunities for all players, from recreational to premier, to achieve their personal goals in a fun environment that promotes teamwork, sportsmanship and mutual respect. York & Lancaster Thorns RFC, as an organization and individually as conscientious citizens and concerned athletes, strive to promote a positive image of Rugby.
Players will be accepted into the York & Lancaster Thorns RFC organization without regard to race, religion, sexual orientation, nationality, or financial status. As an organization, we endeavor to create and foster a spirit of understanding and a culture of success among all members through community involvement and athletic prowess.
Success is defined by continued player interest in the sport of Rugby; as well as the improvement of our players, coaches and teams. We want each of our members to realize their full potential as exceptional athletes as well as productive, responsible and caring citizens.
